Off to Tuscany for Thanksgiving

And I’m heading back to the homeland — it’s time to go to Italy again!

Over Thanksgiving week, I’m co-leading a writing residency with my buddy (and MFA faculty colleague) Kelly Luce, in Tuscany.

For a week, a dozen writers will converge on Il Monasterino della Conoscenza, an 11th century former monastery and orphanage near the medieval city of Siena. We’re leading workshops, giving lectures, and doing readings. Plus, we’re heading into town as much as we can as well.

I went to Il Monasterino in May 2024, and it was stunning — surrounded by vineyards and basking in the rolling Tuscan hills. Bellissimo!

And afterward, I’m taking a spin past my old digs in Taormina, Sicily. (I reserved a room in my old apartment building, where I lived 22 years ago.) Taormina changed everything for me, and I haven’t been back there since 2003.

Everything about this trip is heavy in all the ways I love. Onward….
